“Better to donate than accumulate…”

Why do homeless women and school girls need your donation of bras and underpants?

pic1-300pxwBecause they simply cannot afford them, and homeless women/girls first give up the things that are “invisible” such as underwear and socks. And since bras are such a personal item, many women never think of donating them. Perfectly good and usable bras end up being thrown out, instead of being donated. Over the last year we visited many shelters where women had no bras and panties and no way to purchase them. We spoke to nurses at public schools in Boston who told us about teens desperately needing bras. These teens to avoid embarrassment and bullying often miss school. We spoke to directors at drop-in centers who have not received any donations of underwear for their clients for years. For many of them, Dignity Matters is the only resource they can tap into to receive any help with these basic items.

There are three ways to donate bras and underpants:

1. Purchasing new items from our Amazon Wish List. It is fast, easy and economical. Your order ships directly to us, and you purchase exactly what is needed.

2. Mailing your new or like new items to: Dignity Matters, Inc., Po Box 72, Wayland, MA, 01778

3. Dropping off your items. Please see the list of our permanent collection bins in MA, RI and GA here.

What do we accept?

1. Bras and bralettes (teen’s bras) – new and very gently used/like new.  ALL sizes and styles are needed (including custom made sizes, sports bras, shape wear, nursing bras, etc). To affirm the dignity of the women we serve, we can only accept VERY GENTLY used bras which have no pilling, discoloration or holes. Please launder your bras before donating.

2. Female underpants new with tags only. Any brand, type, size (from size 5T for small homeless school girls up)
