Periods don’t stop for pandemics… and neither does Dignity Matters.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dignity Matters has been working around the clock to ensure that women and girls in need receive free, reliable, and dignified access to menstrual products. Our rapid response to help families in crisis due to the economic impact of COVID-19 includes:

  • Continuing to support the 4,000 women we were serving each month prior to the pandemic
  • Providing 3 months of emergency menstrual care to an additional 4,000 women and families
With your help, Dignity Matters distributed a record 315,535 period protection items in March and April 2020.

Dignity Matters is working with state-wide organizations like MEMA (MA Emergency Management Agency) and regional organizations like JFS MetroWest and Catie’s Closet to distribute menstrual care products to women and girls in immediate need through local emergency centers in Greater Boston, MetroWest and Merrimack Valley. These include:

  • 25 public schools in Boston, Framingham, Lawrence and Lowell
  • The Greater Boston YMCA and the MetroWest YMCA
  • Quarantine shelters for homeless families in Boston and MetroWest
  • The Mattapan Food Pantry

Period protection is essential, and Dignity Matters will remain open to make sure it is available to women in crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic – but we can’t do it without your support.

You can also host a drive right from home. We recommend finding a large, blue, grey or black plastic bin that you can store on your porch or in your driveway. Tell family and friends that you are collecting menstrual care, bras (new or like-new) and underwear (new with tags or in packages of 5 or 6) for Dignity Matters, and that they can drop off items in your bin. We recommend handling them with gloves and isolating them for 3 days to ensure safety during COVID-19.
